Out of Tune - The Governmental Decline of GCSE Music
In May I completed the final documentary segment of my dissertation. I am now pleased to announce it - along with its accompanying research essay - secured a first.
If you'd like to hear my documentary on the decline of GCSE Music in Britain's schools, then it can be listened to on MixCloud below.
I chose to cover the current state of school music after a two week work experience place at BBC 6 Music News.
It was there where I interviewed UK Music CEO Michael Dugher about his concern of a 'worrying decline' in GCSE Music.
I was astounded to find that in 2006, there was 60000 pupils taking GCSE Music.
In 2018, there was only 39000.
This decline is unprecedented, so I spoke to teachers, tutors, political figures, and students to find out why GCSE Music is in decline (and what is in store for the future).

I sourced interviews through emails, telephone calls and even attending conferences.
